Platelet aggregation devices are laboratory instruments used to measure the ability of blood platelets to clump together, or aggregate, in response to a stimulus such as an injury to blood vessels. Platelet aggregation is an important aspect of hemostasis, the process by which the body stops bleeding after an injury.
There are several types of Platelet Aggregation Devices, including optical aggregometers, impedance aggregometers, and biosensors. The most commonly used device is the optical aggregometer, which uses light transmission to measure changes in the optical properties of blood as platelets aggregate.
