Agricultural crop productivity has advanced significantly thanks to genetically modified (GM) seeds. Genetically modified (GM) seeds are ones that have had specific traits added to them, such insect or herbicide resistance (in the case of "Roundup Ready" goods) (in the case of Bt corn).

The only Genetically Modified Seeds crop permitted in India is Bt cotton. It possesses alien genes from the Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) soil bacterium, enabling the crop to produce a protein harmful to the widespread pest pink bollworm.
