The advantages of using Brazilian hardwood decking

Brazilian hardwood comes in many shapes and sizes, from the dense dark  Ipe wood to the golden-brown Cumaru. These materials are remarkably robust, resisting everything from water damage to rot and pests.

In addition, Brazilian hardwood is surprisingly low-maintenance. It can withstand large amounts of weight and pressure, perfect for outdoor barbecue parties and energetic children.

How to find premium quality Brazilian hardwood decking

Another great thing about Brazilian hardwood is that it is widely available. All you have to do is find the right supplier and choose your preferred type of wood. Have trouble with this? Here are some tips to remember:

·         Color

As mentioned above, Color is a prime consideration.  Ipe Brown to Cumaru reddish brown, to Golden Garapa.

·         Consider the material’s durability

Not all types of wood have the same durability. For instance, according to the Janka Scale of Hardness, Ipe is rated at 3680lbf while Cumaru is slightly lower at 3540 lbf.  In layman’s terms, Ipe is 3x harder than Oak.

Therefore, you must choose a decking material that suits your needs, including the weather conditions in your area.

·         Determine the hardwood’s cost-effectiveness

Concerning the material’s lifespan and durability, you’ll also need to consider its cost-effectiveness. Ask yourself, “Will I be getting what I paid for with something like Ipe or Cumaru wood?”

For example, Ipe would be a bit expensive upon initial installation; however, it can also last 30 years. In comparison, pine is significantly cheaper, but it also requires more maintenance and protection.

Always remember, Labor for installation is about the same.  But, with Ipe or Brazilian woods you will not be installing it again in 15 years.

·         Understand that hardwood requires maintenance

Finally, you have to consider the necessary steps to keep your hardwood decking in its best shape. You’ll only be wasting money if you can’t commit to a regular maintenance schedule.

But fortunately, Brazilian hardwood is relatively easy to maintain. Ipe, Cumaru, Garapa, and other Brazilian’s requires only  annual inspection and treatment to keep it clean, protected, and visually appealing.
