Men's hormone therapy, also known as testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) or low testosterone therapy, is used to treat hypogonadism, a condition marked by decreased gonad activity. The clinical syndrome of hypogonadism in men is characterised by the inability of the testes to produce physiological quantities of testosterone. Primary hypogonadism results from an issue with the testes, secondary hypogonadism results from a problem with the hypothalamus or pituitary gland, or mixed primary and secondary hypogonadism. In contrast to secondary Testosterone Replacement Therapy, which is brought on by pituitary and hypothalamic genetic disorders, primary hypogonadism is caused by genetic abnormalities, testicular injuries, orchitis, radiation therapy, or chemotherapy.
