A smart metre is a tool for tracking how much electricity, gas, and water is utilised. The information for monitoring and billing is communicated through a smart meter's interface with the supplier. Energy is typically recorded by smart metres hourly or more frequently, with a minimum daily report. It has a display panel that shows real-time energy consumption as well as estimated expenses. Smart metres employ mobile technology to communicate readings automatically and are an upgraded version of traditional Smart Meter. One of the various parts of the smart grid, it controls the consumption and distribution of energy over the Internet to enable two-way communication, coordination, and control. One of the two types of networks—mesh network and conventional mobile phone network—can be used by smart metres.
