Herbs and spices are examples of seasonings, and they are also frequently referred to as "seasonings." Larousse Gastronomique insists that Seasoning might involve adding a lot or little salt to a preparation, arguing that "to season and to taste are not the same thing." Depending on the recipe, salt may be added to draw out water or to amplify a food's natural flavour, making it richer or more delicate. This kind of process is comparable to curing.
