Hemostasis is a complex biological system in which the balance of procoagulation and anticoagulation processes maintains blood fluidity through intact blood vessels and creates thrombi when necessary to prevent bleeding from impaired vessels.

Hemostasis Diagnostics is the process by which blood vessels stop bleeding. It is a series of interconnected steps. This cascade results in the formation of a "plug" that closes the damaged site of the blood vessel, thereby controlling the bleeding.

Hemostasis is divided into three concurrent processes: primary (platelet plug formation), secondary (formation of a stabilised fibrin clot via the coagulation cascade), and tertiary (formation of plasmin for fibrinolysis).
