A tablet, commonly referred to as a pill, is a solid unit dose form or oral solid dosage in the world of medicine. The solid unit dosage form of a medication or medications combined with the appropriate excipients is known as a tablet. It consists of a combination of active ingredients and excipients that are often in powder form and are compressed or pressed into a solid dosage.
Tablet are created either through compression or moulding. Among the excipients are diluents, binders or granulating agents, glidants (flow aids), and lubricants to ensure effective tableting; disintegrants to encourage tablet break-up in the digestive tract; sweeteners or flavours to improve taste; and pigments to make the tablets visually appealing or to help with visual identification of an unknown tablet.
