Workstation
Software for common office functions, such as that used for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and e-mail, is not run on Workstation. The desktop PC is responsible for that. Instead, workstations manage computationally intensive large-scale tasks. A desktop lacks the capabilities to perform many of the activities that workstations can, including photorealistic renderings, data processing, and CAD animations. The cost of the two various types of computers normally varies greatly, with a workstation typically costing far more than a desktop computer. This is partly because each type's hardware is different, with the desktop not requiring the workstation's high-performance components.
