For instance, by suppressing the expression of TA29, a gene required for pollen formation, researchers have created tobacco lines that are male sterile. RNAi Technology was also utilised to reduce Msh1 expression in tomato and tobacco, which led to mitochondrial DNA rearrangements that are connected to cytoplasmic male sterility that occurs naturally.
