How Flumazenil is Approved by FDA and How is the Proper Dosage Taken?

The FDA has approved the use of Flumazenil, a benzodiazepine receptor antagonist, to treat the reversal of conscious sedation brought on by benzodiazepines. Diaphoresis, soreness at the injection site, lightheadedness, headaches, altered eyesight, blurred vision, and agitation are examples of typical side responses.

 

·       For the treatment of benzodiazepine-induced conscious sedation, flumazenil injection is recommended.

·       Dosage

·       Patients less than a year old have not yet been identified.

·       Children 1 year of age and older: 0.01 mg/kg IV over 15 seconds; if necessary, subsequent injections of the same dosage may be done up to 4 times at 1-minute intervals if significant sedation reversal does not occur after an additional 45 seconds.
