Environmentalists want a judge to apply a legislation from the state of New York from 1971 to compel manufacturers to disclose the ingredients in everyday products like Ajax, Ivory soap, and Tide. The Household Cleaners business, which has recently increased voluntary efforts to disclose product contents, claims that the legal action is unjustified and that health dangers are overstated. The American Lung Association and the Sierra Club, for example, urge the public to be aware of additional information.
At a hearing on Thursday, Keri Powell, an attorney with the environmental firm Earthjustice, stated that members "want access to the information so they can assess the kind of chemicals that they are introducing into their homes and whether there are any risks associated with them."
