Diagnosis and Treatment of Cervical Dysplasia
Cervical Dysplasia

Cervical Dysplasia often only becomes apparent following a Pap smear and has no symptoms. A colposcopy, a magnified view of the cervix, vagina, and vulva, may be advised if a woman has an abnormal Pap smear in order to study cells more precisely and collect tissue for additional testing.

Depending on how severe the problem is, cervical dysplasia requires different treatments. Without therapy, mild dysplasia may go away on its own.

Modest to severe dysplasia or mild dysplasia that does not go away on its own may be treated with the following methods:

·       Utilizing laser therapy to remove unhealthy tissue

·       To remove aberrant tissue, use a cone biopsy or LEEP (loop electrosurgical excision technique).

·       aberrant cell freezing during cryosurgery.

·       Patients should carefully explore treatment choices with their doctor as these procedures may result in excessive bleeding or potential pregnancy concerns. Patients with cervical dysplasia will also require routine Pap tests (usually once a year) or as prescribed by their doctor to make sure the condition does not return.
