The field of Molecular Diagnostics, or molecular pathology as it is also known, combines the accuracy of molecular biology with laboratory testing methods and applications. RNA or DNA are typically sequenced to look for potential genetic disease signs. Genetic and biomarker testing, which are sometimes used interchangeably, as well as what pharmaceutical companies refer to as companion tests are examples of Molecular Diagnostics test types (a diagnostic protocol used in conjunction with a drug).
