Ophthalmic Lasers are medical devices that produce high-energy beams of light that can be precisely directed to treat various conditions affecting the eye. Ophthalmic Lasers are used in ophthalmology, the branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders.
There are several types of Ophthalmic Lasers including:
· Excimer Lasers: These are ultraviolet lasers that are used in corneal refractive surgery, such as LASIK, to reshape the cornea and correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.
· YAG Lasers: These are neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet lasers that are used to treat posterior capsular opacification, a common condition that occurs after cataract surgery.
· Diode Lasers: These are semiconductor lasers that emit near-infrared light and are used for a variety of purposes, including photocoagulation for retinal diseases such as diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration.
· Argon Lasers: These are green lasers that emit light at a wavelength that is well absorbed by melanin and hemoglobin. They are used to treat conditions such as glaucoma, retinal detachment, and age-related macular degeneration.
· SLT Lasers: These are selective laser trabeculoplasty lasers that are used to lower intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma.
